Civic Duty and Responsibilities

As a participant in the system of governance, citizens have rights and it is necessary to ensure that they are granted in a definite and accurate manner. Activities that contradict this should be prevented and responsible civil rights should be implemented.

Citizens are responsible to fulfill certain duties and responsibilities towards the society and the nation, which can be briefly said to be civic duties. It is the duty of a good citizen to automatically fulfill them.

Article 51A of the Constitution of India (1976)

To show respect and obedience to the Constitution and the fundamental values ​​of the nation, not to disrespect or violate them, and to nurture the values ​​of the national freedom struggle.

To protect, maintain and not destroy public property.

To preserve historical and cultural heritage.

To protect and preserve natural wealth, forests and wildlife, and the ecological balance.

Protect and enhance the status and dignity of women and combat acts against women.

Combat superstitions and immoralities, develop scientific aptitude, scientific consciousness and humanity, and rise to individual and social excellence.

Uphold the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the nation, promote religious harmony and mutual brotherhood, and be ready to serve the nation in times of need.

Panchayat Raj Act (1994, 1999) The Panchayat Raj Act of 1994 has defined the duties and responsibilities of citizens residing in a Gram Panchayat area. As a citizen of a Panchayat, every person residing in a Gram Panchayat area is responsible for performing the following duties.

Participate in the Gram Sabha and play a direct role in the local governance process, thereby making active democracy a reality.

Prevent tax evasion and ensure the local government's own income by accurately paying tax rates. Avoid artificial or evasive tax payments.

Assist the Panchayat in development activities. Assist in the mobilization and utilization of personal, physical and financial resources.

Participate in planning and implementation assessments.

Do not cause public nuisance, disruption to public life, and dumping of waste in public places and be vigilant against them.

Cooperate with the Panchayat in implementing activities such as sanitation, immunization, nutrition distribution, literacy, legal education, and dispute resolution processes.

Help make the social audit process meaningful.

Engage in activities that are helpful to social unity and participatory development processes against fundamentalism and sectarianism.

Be vigilant against corruption and maladministration as per the law. Ensure the possibilities for the democratic development of local government.

Cooperate in maintaining natural resources, public transport system, etc. and do not misuse or exploit them.

Promote and maintain the habit of frugality, avoid luxury and epidemics, and ensure self-help activities and participation.

Rally against social evils such as alcoholism, drugs, dowry, violence against women, child labor, and work against backward classes.

Participate in environmental awareness and ensure ecological balance.

Cooperate in the accurate collection, compilation, and compilation of statistics. Do not provide wrong information and resist its provision.

Help protect the victims of natural disasters.

Cultivate cooperative and economic habits.

Release land for development purposes and do not illegally occupy public land.

Organize neighborhood groups, self-help - mutual help groups.

Avoid anti-social behaviors such as spitting, defecating, drinking alcohol, and smoking in public places and on the streets.

Do not slaughter animals in public places. Do not sell meat and meat waste in an open and disgusting manner.

Get your pets, pets, and birds vaccinated and obtain licenses.

Comply with laws and regulations, do not violate them, and do not incite or assist in their violation.

Maintain equality and justice between men and women. Participate in appropriate activities.
